The European Society of Uro(genital) Radiology (ESUR) was founded under the mentorship of Danish Henrik Thomsen; I supported him - whom I met first at a contrast media brain storming held in La Jolla by Milos Sovak in 1986 (?) then in Montbazon in 1987 - since he invited me to join his initiative in the late 80ies. He was a specialist of nuclear medicine interested in the pharmakodynamics of iodinated contrast media studied in the experimental animal. He had been visiting researcher at the UCSD under Lee Talner's authority. He was supported by his boss, Sven Dorph, and by a dozen of European representatives of their countries. At that time my agenda was overloaded and I refused to be the founder head of the ESUR project meanwhile the French leader, Annick Pinet of Lyon, was founding the Société d'imagerie Génito-Urinaire (SIGU); the French uroradiology was the strongest European one and I minded that my role had to be catalytic but not imperialistic. The history is told onto the ESUR website. The founding president was Ludovico Dalla Palma who had become President of the Association of European Radiology in charge of the lauch of the biennal European Congress of Radiology to be held in Vienna. I was the second president of ESUR from 1994 to 1996; my two main initiatives were  to give Strasbourg and Catherine Roy the first French ESUR meeting in 1998 and to create the Contrast Media Safety Committee edited by Thomsen and Judith Webb; because of my pionneering involvement into the female imaging, I influenced the development of female urogenital radiology within the philosophy of the society who was rather machist at the origin. I chaired the GU program of the third European Congress of Radiology in Vienna. Later, in 2009, I gave the opening lecture of Greek ESUR meeting whose topic was the history of uroradiology in Europ since 1896. In 2010, I repeated that lecture in Spanish at the Mexican Meeting VER-Imagen. The content was transiently hosted onto the ISHRAD website then it has been readable here at www.jfma.fr. The first leaders of ESUR were corresponding members of the Society of Uroradiology (SUR)
