Istanbul's 'illegal' towers to be demolished after landmark court ruling | theguardian.com http://j.mp/1tzXMoi
Commentaire personnel:
To my opinion whatever the city and more specially if it is one of the
most impressive old capitos of the Planet Earth, all kinds of
architectures should easily coexist. But, the buildings must be a symbol
of excellence if they belong to a prestigious landscape. I don't see
any reason to destroy those buildings if they were designed by famous
architects and/or are well built by the best of the construction
contractors.
There is a big controversy in Paris with the Montparnasse Tower built in
the 70ies as the tallest skycraper of France. I live at two blocks of
it and I knew the district when there was the old Montparnasse Railway
Station which had to be destroyed because of its obsolescence. I do
regret the destruction of the northern station termed Gare de l'Arrivée
because of the building could be renewed and transformed like the Gare
d'Orsay as a Museum. The French are today 25th of August celebrating the
signature of the Liberation of Paris by General Leclercq and General
von Choltitz 70 years ago in 1944.
I don't complain on the destruction of the Gare du Maine-Départ and the
ugly bridge of the avenue du Maine anyway. I like the Montparnasse Tower
and the new Montparnasse Station though it took time to be used to
include the latter in the landscape since the place in between both
building is too tight and narrow to welcome hosts of travelors now.
The major problem is based upon the big use of asbestos coating with a
high-risk of lung cancers among the numerous people working in the
offices of the 52 floors of the Towers. There are no living apartments
there but economical impact of the removal required by the prevention of
the risk of asbestosis is terribly negative for both the investors and
the commercial environment. More and more people I don't belong to are
claiming for the destruction of the tower. I know the cost of the
removal undertaken several years ago has been ruinous and ineffective
since half of the building has been treated only! I don't knoiw what the
best solution is but I feel as a doctor that the risk of asbestosis is
too much treated hysterically by the integrist ecologists and one should
evaluated how fruitful against fire prevention asbestos has been. On
the other hand I like the smart architecture of the Montparnasse Tower
expressing the glass-style of the second half of the XXth Century
inspired by Manhattan and Chicago. I'm delighted by the vision of the
tower emerging not too far of the Eiffel Tower upward the Haussmannian
buildings featuring most of the ancient Paris built in the XIXth Century
by Napoleon IIIrd.
